I have compiled a list of tips (Dos/Don’ts) to ensure the time spent in the blessed lands is time well spent.

* One of the most important of all advices: Safeguard your eyesight. When travelling and especially in Makkah when men and women tend to mix more.
* Protect your women; each woman travelling will have a maHram whose responsibility it is to ensure that no harm comes her way. The worst men are the dayyooth (those who lack ghayrah, i.e. do not care if (non-maHram) men approach their wives, mothers, sisters or daughters) and the worst women are those that flirt…

The virtues of Umrah

Umrah is known to be the ‘minor Hajj’ and is a Sunnah act performed at any time of the year except for the five days of Hajj, in which it is makrooh, or disliked, to perform Umrah. One who steps out in the path of Umrah is considered a pilgrim until he reaches back home. In a hadith found in the book of Ibne Maajah, The Prophet (S) said: “The performers of Hajj and Umrah are deputations of Allah (SWT). If they call Him, He answers them and if they seek His forgiveness, He forgives them.” This hadeeth clearly shows the great significance of Umrah and how much Allah (SWT) loves those who sacrifice their time and wealth for His cause. In another hadeeth, the Prophet (SWS) says:

One Umrah is an expiation for the sins committed between it and another Umrah. (Bukhari, Muslim)……

The night of Bara’at (15th of Shabaan)

Allah Ta’ ala has, afforded His bondsmen certain selected opportunities whereby they may reap his infinite mercy and forgiveness. Some explicit examples of these occasions are the month of Ramadan and Laylatul Qadr.The night of the fifteenth of Shábaan is one such opportunity. Several Ahadith expound the tremendous merit of this occasion. Amongst them is the fact that countless people are forgiven by Allah Ta’ ala during this blessed night. It is due to this reason that it is called “The Night of Bara’at” (i.e. the night wherein judgment of salvation from Jahannam (hell) is passed).
