Every so often our attention is drawn to the unfolding of such events that have resulted in the loss of hundreds or thousands of lives and wreckage in the lives of thousands of others as has happened in Japan recently. Droughts, floods, erupting volcanoes, tornadoes, typhoons, earthquakes and their like have been seen to wreak havoc in the lives of millions of people.
